Fraser Island is an island located along the southern coast of Queensland, a 4 hour drive north of Brisbane.

Largest Sand Island


Its length is 120 kms (75 miles) and its width is around 24 kms (15 miles). It is as a world heritage area It is the largest sand island in the world. It is also Queensland's largest island, Australia's sixth largest island and the largest island on the East Coast of Australia

The island is part of the Fraser Coast and protected in the Great Sandy National park, which is situated between Noosa Heads and Rainbow Beach, Fraser is north of Rainbow Beach

Diverse Beauty


Fraser Island has a wide diversity of rainforests, mangrove forests, eucalyptus woodland, wallum and peat swamps, sand dunes and coastal heaths.

Fresh Water Lakes


There are a number of fresh water lakes on Fraser the best known of these is Lake McKenzie, the others are Wabbie, Lake Birrabeen, and Lake Boomanjin, said to be the largest perched lake in the world. There is also Elli Creek a freshwater creek that flows into the ocean.

The only place that it is safe to swim in Salt Water is at Champagne Pools

Native Animal and Bird Life


Fraser Island is home to a small number of mammal species, as well as a diverse range of birds, reptiles.

The Government has restricted the opportunities People have to get close to the Dingos, you are not permitted to feed or pat the Dingo. Being the home of the Dingos purest of breeds in Australia as no domestic dogs are allowed on Fraser Island.

Popular Tourist Destination


Fraser Island is one of the most popular Islands for tourism having no made roads, it’s population is small, and there are only a couple of resorts, the larger and better known one being Kingfisher Bay Resort on the western side. On the Eastern side there is Eurong Beach Resort,

There are places you are permitted to camp on the beach on the eastern side but you must check for the signs that will advise when you can, There are also designated camping areas.

To visit Fraser Island you really want a minimum of 2 days but if you have 3 or more you may be able to see it all.

Fraser Island looks so beautiful and is definitely on my list to go to.

Hi Jackie,

Yes it is beautiful and I never tire of going I have stayed in a beach house Camped and stayed at Kingfisher Resort Of Course I enjoyed the latter the best, but would take any one of the options.
